My name is Nicholas Hirschmann, and I have been working professionally in translation, proofreading and localization since 2017. Over the years, I have collaborated with international companies, agencies and digital platforms on multilingual projects ranging from financial content and enterprise technology to gaming, subtitles and e-commerce.
My professional path into localization was shaped by two areas that continue to influence my work today: language and structured communication. During my legal studies at Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen, I developed a strong understanding of precision, terminology and analytical writing — skills that later became highly valuable within professional localization workflows.
Early in my freelance career, I worked on a variety of fast-paced digital projects, which quickly introduced me to the realities of international content production. Instead of focusing solely on traditional document translation, I became increasingly involved in localization environments that required consistency across websites, apps, UI elements, glossaries and multilingual marketing material.
This experience allowed me to work with companies from very different industries and adapt to their individual tone, workflows and audiences. My projects have included subtitle localization for e-learning and business content, UX-related translations for apps and SaaS platforms, financial market communication, product descriptions, technical documentation and multilingual website content.
A large part of my work today involves long-term collaboration with international clients and localization teams. Several recommendation letters describe me as reliable, detail-oriented and highly responsive in day-to-day communication. One client highlighted my ability to deliver “high-quality work” consistently under tight deadlines, while another emphasized my “strong linguistic expertise and excellent command of both English and German.”
Beyond language itself, I enjoy the strategic side of localization: improving consistency, refining terminology, optimizing workflows and adapting content in ways that feel natural to German-speaking users. This combination of linguistic and technical understanding has become one of the defining aspects of my professional approach.
I am also experienced with modern CAT tools and collaborative platforms including SDL Trados, MemoQ, Smartcat, Crowdin, Figma and Slack, which allows me to integrate efficiently into existing localization processes.
Outside of client work, I remain highly interested in digital communication, multilingual UX and the evolving role of localization within global online businesses.
